Keep Your Septic System in Tip Top Shape

  • Be sure that water is directed away from the septic drain field.

A soggy drain field won’t absorb and neutralize liquid waste. Plan landscaping, roof gutters and foundation drains so that excess water is diverted away from the septic drain field. Recheck these areas often during the rainy season.

  • Plant Trees Away from the Septic System.

Trees should be kept at least 100 feet away from the septic system to keep their roots from creating damage to the system.

  • Protect the System from Damage.

Do not drive over the drain field or build a structure on top of it…both can cause damage. It is best to plant grass on the drain field to minimize soil erosion.
